Brandon Miller wins NBA’s monthly rookie award

Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller is the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for January, the NBA announced on Thursday.

In 13 January games, Miller averaged 16.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists and led all rookies with 2.2 3-points per game. Miller had five of the six highest-scoring games of his career during January, including tying his top outing with 29 points in a 113-92 loss to the New York Knicks on Monday.

That raised Miller’s season averages to 15.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 40 games in 2023-24.

Miller joined the Hornets from Alabama as the second player picked in 2023 NBA Draft. The player chosen ahead of Miller, center Victor Wembanyama, was the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for January.

Miller and the Hornets will be back in action when they visit the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m. CST Friday.
